Everton are pushing to add more attacking threat to David Moyes’ squad after a summer that has focused primarily on strengthening the midfield.
Christian Norgaard, Hayden Hackney and Merlin Rohl have brought steel and control to the engine room, while Tyrique George has joined as another option in attack.
Despite those additions, goalscoring remains a pressing concern, with Everton managing just 47 Premier League goals last season among the lowest tallies of any surviving club.
The Toffees also created only 53 big chances throughout the campaign, placing them among the division’s least threatening sides in the final third.
Jack Grealish has returned to Manchester City following his loan spell, leaving a clear creative void that Everton must now find a way to fill.
Iliman Ndiaye remains the player most capable of producing something unexpected, though Al-Hilal are currently attempting to sign the Senegalese forward in what could be a significant deal.
That backdrop makes Czech international Pavel Sulc an intriguing option, with French outlet But! Football Club reporting that Everton have made enquiries about the 25-year-old.
Sulc won his country’s Player of the Year award in 2025 and is not a conventional wide man, preferring to drift into pockets and make intelligent runs toward goal.
He joined Lyon from Viktoria Plzen last August after building his career through loan spells at clubs including Vysocina Jihlava, Opava, Ceske Budejovice and Jablonec.
Those early experiences gave him the senior minutes needed to mature, and he eventually exploded at Plzen by scoring 33 goals across his final two full Czech league campaigns.
That domestic form carried directly into France, where Sulc struck 11 times and supplied three assists in just 27 Ligue 1 appearances during his first Lyon season.
He started only 17 of those matches and played 1,565 minutes in total, making that output even more remarkable and underlining why clubs are now taking notice.
Leeds are also reported to hold an interest in the player, although their discussions have not reached an advanced stage and no official offer from any English club has been submitted.
Lyon signed Sulc for a reported £6.5 million and have him contracted until 2029, placing them in a strong negotiating position as the French report values him at around £17 million.
Separate claims have suggested Lyon could demand even more than that figure, meaning any prospective buyer would need significant resources to conclude a deal.
There is also a fitness question for Everton to consider, after Sulc missed Lyon’s recent European qualifier against Sparta Prague with knee inflammation.
Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed the problem publicly, while also acknowledging the transfer interest surrounding the Czech international.
Everton would need to satisfy themselves over his physical condition before taking their interest any further down the road.
For now, their approach should be read as an initial check on the player’s availability rather than a sign that a deal is imminent.
Should Sulc return to fitness and a move become viable, his ability to deliver goals from midfield positions could prove exactly what Everton need heading into the new season.
