Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are locked in “key talks” on Tuesday to try and resolve the ongoing Bradley Barcola transfer saga.
The Athletic reports that meetings are taking place as the two clubs attempt to bridge a significant gap in their respective valuations of the French winger.
Barcola, 23, is described as “committed” to making the move to Anfield, though no formal agreement between the clubs has yet been reached.
PSG are holding firm at a £145m asking price, while Liverpool have been looking to bring that figure closer to the £100m mark throughout negotiations.
Despite the valuation dispute, discussions have been described as positive by those close to the talks, and there is genuine optimism that a deal can ultimately be agreed.
Sky Sports News understands that good relations exist between the two clubs at the highest level, which could prove crucial in pushing a deal over the line.
Barcola is keen to depart the Parc des Princes and his contract runs until 2028, with the France international having no intention of signing an extension at PSG.
His desire for more regular game time is understood to be a key factor in his push to leave the European champions this summer.
Liverpool have also explored a move for Barcola’s PSG team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye, who operates from the right wing, as the club targets reinforcements in wide areas.
Brighton have rejected two Liverpool offers for Yankuba Minteh during the window, with the most recent bid reported to be in the region of £60m.
Liverpool had previously pursued Yan Diomande earlier this summer before he completed a move to Real Madrid, leaving Barcola as the club’s primary target to replace Mohamed Salah.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that negotiations with Liverpool are ongoing, speaking to Canal+ following PSG’s UEFA Super Cup victory, saying: “We’ll see…the discussion is in negotiation.”
