Liverpool are continuing negotiations with Brighton and Hove Albion over a deal to sign winger Yankuba Minteh, according to transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 22-year-old has been identified by Liverpool as a serious candidate to replace Mohamed Salah, who departed Anfield as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Minteh originally joined Brighton from Newcastle United and spent his early spell at the AMEX Stadium as a rotational option before establishing himself in the starting lineup.
His productivity, however, has shown a notable dip in more recent times, with his output declining despite his growing involvement in the squad.
After registering 12 goal contributions during the 2024/25 campaign, Minteh managed only seven goal contributions across all tournaments last term.
Liverpool have already had two bids rejected by Brighton, with those opening proposals understood to be worth up to £60m combined.
Brighton are holding firm in their valuation and are demanding around £70m before they will sanction a departure for the young winger.
Plettenberg reported: “Negotiations between Liverpool and Brighton for Yankuba Minteh are still ongoing. Understand the 22 y/o winger is expected to need another 2-3 months to be fully match-fit after his injury.”
Complicating matters further, Minteh is currently sidelined through injury and will not be available for selection for the next two to three months.
That timeline means Liverpool would not have the player available immediately even if a deal were agreed in the coming days or weeks.
Brighton manager Fabian Iraola has been reshaping his squad this cycle, and the potential sale of Minteh would represent a significant piece of that ongoing rebuild.
Liverpool will need to find a resolution soon if they are to land their top target and address the gap left by Salah’s exit from the first team.
