Manchester United and Liverpool are both reportedly eyeing a move for Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade, according to Caught Offside.
The 24-year-old German joined Stuttgart as a free agent in 2024 and made 20 goal contributions across all competitions during his time in the Bundesliga.
Newcastle were impressed enough by those performances to splash a significant fee on Woltemade last summer, bringing him to the Premier League.
He made a bright start at St. James’ Park but struggled to maintain his form and could not force his way into the starting line-up during the second half of last season.
Newcastle are now reportedly prepared to let Woltemade leave this summer, having initially sought a permanent transfer worth around £56m.
The Magpies have since softened their stance and are open to a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next year.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool are monitoring the situation closely, though neither club currently considers Woltemade a priority target.
Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have also registered interest in the striker, setting up a potential five-way battle for his signature.
Woltemade is a 6ft 6in right-footed striker who can also provide cover in the CAM position, and is noted for being technically sound, strong in the air and efficient from the penalty spot.
Liverpool’s interest has been given added urgency following Hugo Ekitike’s serious injury, leaving Alexander Isak as the club’s only recognised striker option heading into the new campaign.
United, meanwhile, currently have Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee available up front, with Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha also capable of covering the position.
However, Zirkzee has been linked with a move to Juventus, which could push United into the market for a replacement if that deal materialises this summer.
Woltemade remains a developing talent rather than a finished product, but either club securing him on loan could represent a shrewd and low-risk addition to their attacking options.
