Manchester United are reportedly making Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall their primary transfer target as they look to strengthen the left-back position before the September 1st deadline.
The 21-year-old came through Chelsea’s youth system before joining Newcastle in 2023, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent.
Hall has steadily developed into a dependable Premier League performer, contributing to Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph last year.
Despite Newcastle’s inconsistency last campaign, Hall delivered three goal contributions and kept four clean sheets across 46 appearances in all competitions.
Reports from The Sun indicate United are prioritising Hall over Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has also been offered to the Old Trafford club as an option.
Newcastle are desperate to retain Hall, having already sanctioned the departures of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sandro Tonali in recent transfer windows.
Hall’s contract runs until 2029, giving Newcastle significant leverage, but the defender is reportedly open to making the move to Manchester United this summer.
Transfermarkt currently values the left-back at around £34m, a fee that would represent a significant but potentially worthwhile outlay for United.
Hall is technically gifted, capable of playing as a left-back or left wing-back, and can also provide midfield cover when required, making him a versatile option for the squad.
Luke Shaw has been United’s first-choice left-back for several years but has been plagued by persistent fitness problems throughout his career at Old Trafford.
Shaw’s existing contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, meaning United appear to be planning for life without the former Southampton man.
