Manchester United have turned their attention to RB Leipzig defender David Raum as they seek to bolster their left-back options this transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer for Leipzig since joining from TSG Hoffenheim in 2022, establishing himself as a key figure in their squad.
Raum delivered an impressive campaign last season, scoring three goals and registering nine assists across 34 appearances in all competitions.
He also contributed defensively, helping Leipzig keep eight clean sheets throughout the course of that campaign.
His strong form earned him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, though Julian Nagelsmann used him primarily as a backup option during the tournament.
United had originally identified Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall as their primary left-back target to provide support for Luke Shaw.
However, Newcastle have firmly shut the door on any potential departure, having already allowed Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes to leave the club this summer.
With Hall unavailable, United have shifted focus toward Raum, who carries a £34m release clause but has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig could be willing to sell for less than £30m if they are unable to agree a contract extension with the player in the coming days, according to TEAMtalk.
Crucially, Raum has previously held talks with United and is reportedly ready to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
United have also shortlisted younger alternatives, including Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys, Bournemouth’s Adrian Truffert, and Racing Santander’s Spanish youth star Jorge Salinas.
TEAMtalk also claim United held interest in Alejandro Balde and Nathaniel Brown, though the German has since decided to join Bayern Munich.
A move for Balde is considered unlikely due to the player’s recent fitness concerns, narrowing United’s realistic options at left-back.
With Raum at the prime stage of his career and available at a potentially reduced fee, United could see him as a smart addition to their defensive ranks this summer.
