Bristol City’s summer signing Lorent Tolaj arrives in the Championship with a remarkable record of climbing divisions and scoring goals at every level.
Tolaj spent 2023-24 in the National League with Aldershot, where he scored 19 goals and caught the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.
He made the jump to League Two with Port Vale in 2024-25, continuing his upward trajectory by netting 14 goals in the third tier of English football.
Last season, Tolaj stepped up again to League One, scoring 18 goals in total, including one for Port Vale and 17 after a mid-season move to Plymouth.
Bristol City made their move for the striker this summer, securing his signature for £4m as they look to strengthen their attacking options in the Championship.
Tolaj finished last season as the fourth top scorer in League One, a remarkable achievement given he played for two different clubs across the campaign.
He also contributed eight assists during the season, a figure that only six players across the entire division managed to surpass during 2025-26.
Only Dom Ballard, who registered 27 goal involvements, finished ahead of Tolaj’s tally of 26 across League One last season.
Ballard and Tolaj will now link up as teammates at Bristol City after the forward joined from Leyton Orient, giving the club two of the division’s most productive attackers.
Tolaj’s 113 shots last season were more than any other player in League One, underlining his aggressive and high-volume approach to attacking play.
He averaged 3.7 shots per 90 minutes throughout the campaign, a figure that only Aaron Connolly managed to better across the division.
With that kind of relentless output in front of goal, Championship defences will need to be well organised and alert whenever Tolaj is on the pitch this season.
