Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in signing Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini, according to The Sun.
Spurs have already been active in strengthening their backline this summer, bringing in Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke.
Despite those arrivals, Tottenham are still monitoring the defensive market in case Cristian Romero departs the club over the coming weeks.
The Sun reports that Spurs have already made direct approaches to Scalvini’s representatives to explore the possibility of a deal.
Atalanta are not under pressure to sell, with the Italian’s contract running until 2028, and the Serie A club are known for driving a hard bargain with their prized assets.
The Italian club are reportedly demanding around £43m for the 22-year-old, though Scalvini himself is said to be open to a move to the Premier League.
Tottenham would not expect issues agreeing personal terms with the player, but face fierce competition from both Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Newcastle have gone a step further by preparing a £34m offer to test Atalanta’s willingness to do business this summer.
Chelsea are in the hunt for defensive reinforcements despite signing Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, with manager Xabi Alonso reportedly willing to let five centre-backs leave the club.
Scalvini stands at 6ft 4in and is described as a technically gifted, right-footed defender who is quick, strong in the air, and comfortable playing out from the back.
The defender made four goal contributions and kept five clean sheets across 24 Serie A appearances last season, highlighting his growing influence at Atalanta.
His fitness record is a concern, however, as Scalvini has dealt with numerous physical setbacks in recent years that both Tottenham and Chelsea must carefully consider.
