Despite already spending upwards of £200m this summer, Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to pursue further reinforcements ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
Roberto De Zerbi has already overseen the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, with the club’s midfield department receiving a significant overhaul in recent months.
The Italian manager has now turned his attention to the attacking department, with the 47-year-old appearing desperate to bring in a reliable goalscorer before the window closes.
The need for a new striker has been driven largely by the struggles of Dominic Solanke, who has failed to justify his £65m club-record price tag since joining in the summer of 2024.
The 28-year-old endured a nightmare 2025/26 campaign, making just 15 Premier League appearances and scoring only three goals due to a series of damaging injury setbacks.
Solanke missed 60% of the Lilywhites’ top-flight fixtures last season, and his underlying numbers upon returning to fitness did little to ease concerns about his suitability as the club’s number one striker.
His tally of 0.8 shots on target per 90 minutes ranked him below 70% of players in his position, while he won just 30% of his aerial duels — a figure bettered by 75% of other Premier League strikers.
With Solanke clearly unable to provide the consistent focal point De Zerbi requires, Spurs have identified AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun as a potential solution to their attacking problems.
Football Insider has reported that Spurs have been monitoring the USA international and could make a move for the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes this summer.
The report also states that Balogun himself would be open to leaving the Ligue 1 club, though no deal is considered imminent at this stage between the two parties.
Balogun joined Monaco for £25m back in the summer of 2023, and his impressive performances over recent seasons have seen his estimated market value rise to around £43m.
The former Arsenal man produced a standout campaign in 2025/26, netting 10 more league goals than Solanke while also scoring five goals in 10 Champions League appearances.
His shot-on-target rate of 1.5 per 90 minutes placed him above 80% of strikers across Europe’s top five leagues, nearly double the figure posted by Solanke during the same period.
Balogun’s ability to operate as a penalty box predator is one of his most valued attributes, with his poacher instincts generating an impressive 7.2 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.
That figure placed him above 95% of forwards in the same statistical category and was nearly twice the rate recorded by Solanke throughout his injury-interrupted season.
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has also been linked with a move to North London, though his significant wage demands reportedly make a deal complicated for the Spurs hierarchy to pursue.
Balogun represents a potentially more achievable and cost-effective option for ENIC, who have shown clear ambition in the market this summer with no signs of slowing their spending.
De Zerbi’s vision for Spurs appears to demand a high-pressing, dynamic centre-forward capable of leading the line with consistency, and Balogun’s profile fits that description well.
Signing the Monaco striker would signal a major statement of intent from the club, demonstrating that the manager and hierarchy are serious about building a team capable of competing at the highest level.
Whether a deal can be completed before the window shuts remains to be seen, but Balogun is clearly the name at the top of Spurs’ attacking wish list heading into the final stretch of the summer.
