Tottenham Hotspur are making a strong push to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.
The 27-year-old Dutch forward has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide players since arriving at Anfield in 2023.
Gakpo first caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs during his standout spell at PSV Eindhoven, where he recorded an impressive 34 goal contributions across all competitions in the 2021/22 season.
He continued that rich vein of form into the following campaign, registering 13 goals and 16 assists in all tournaments before Liverpool decided to act and sign him.
Since joining the Reds, the Dutchman has won a Premier League title and an EFL Cup, cementing his status as a key contributor at Anfield.
Gakpo has already made his mark in the current season, netting against Newcastle United in Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture of the campaign.
Crook reported on X: “Tottenham still pushing to sign Cody Gakpo. Understand a move to Man City unlikely at this stage. Liverpool remain in talks with PSG for Bradley Barcola. French sources suggesting that one is more likely than unlikely between now and the transfer deadline.”
Liverpool appear increasingly likely to replace Gakpo with Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, with talks between the two clubs understood to be progressing positively.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Gakpo comes after a busy summer of rebuilding under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has overseen a significant squad overhaul following a difficult previous campaign.
The North London club have already bolstered their defence with the additions of Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke during the transfer window.
Spurs further strengthened their midfield by bringing in Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, while Martin Dubravka arrived to provide goalkeeping cover following Guglielmo Vicario’s loan move to Juventus.
Despite already completing deals for Savinho and Omar Marmoush to strengthen the attack, Tottenham are determined to add further firepower before the window closes.
Gakpo is valued at around £51m by Transfermarkt, and his proven Premier League pedigree makes him an attractive proposition for Spurs as they look to mount a serious challenge this season.
