West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen scored twice to inspire a dramatic 3-2 victory at Bolton, sending the Hammers to the top of the Championship on goal difference.
The England international opened the scoring after just 13 minutes, setting the tone for an absorbing contest that swung repeatedly between the two sides.
Bolton, beaten for a fourth successive outing, drew level through midfielder Ethan Erhahon’s maiden goal for the club before Ruben Rodrigues converted a 27th-minute penalty.
That strike appeared to put Wanderers on course for a ninth successive league victory over West Ham, but Konstantinos Mavropanos restored parity with a 31st-minute header.
Bowen then completed the comeback 13 minutes from time, giving his side their first win at Bolton in 31 years and sending them to the top of the table.
Elsewhere, Southampton claimed their 13th consecutive unbeaten home game at St Mary’s with a commanding 3-1 victory over Swansea, displacing the Welsh side from top spot.
Cyle Larin, joint-top scorer in the Championship with five goals this season, scored either side of strikes from Finn Azaz and Leo Scienza to seal the comfortable win.
Watford recovered from a poor first half to beat Preston 2-1, with Edo Kayembe and Mamadou Doumbia netting within seven second-half minutes after Callum Lang had given the visitors a sixth-minute lead.
Preston’s defeat was their fifth in six league games, while Wrexham’s wait for a home win continued after winless Burnley held them to a 1-1 draw, with Jacques Ekomie cancelling out Zeki Amdouni’s opener.
Ekomie, who joined Burnley in a £7m deal from Angers, headed his second goal for the club to end a run of seven straight away defeats, though former England striker Jamie Vardy, 39, was suspended after collecting yellow cards during his time with Italian side Cremonese.
Sheffield United returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Blackburn, turning the match around after Kristi Montgomery’s opener, with Tom Cannon and Sydie Peck scoring in the final ten minutes of a first half that Rovers had dominated.
Cardiff extended their winless start to the season despite drawing 1-1 with Stoke, with Joel Colwill’s header cancelling out Ben Johnson’s first-half goal, a result that lifted Cardiff out of the relegation zone while sending Stoke down to 15th.
