Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has called on his old club to pursue Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane in a major transfer move.
Dublin believes Kane represents the ideal signing to lift United back into contention among England’s elite clubs after a difficult period.
The Red Devils currently rely on Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee as their specialist striker options, but neither has convinced manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick has shown a notable reluctance to start Sesko consistently, despite the Slovenian arriving with a strong reputation from RB Leipzig.
Zirkzee, meanwhile, has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League since joining from Bologna a couple of years ago.
With neither forward delivering, Carrick has turned to Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in a false nine role in recent months to plug the gap.
Dublin argues that the current options simply are not good enough for a club with United’s ambitions, pointing specifically to Sesko’s limitations.
Dublin claims that Sesko doesn’t have the qualities to score 30 goals a season, suggesting United need a genuine upgrade at the number nine position.
Kane, who has already turned 33, is someone Dublin believes can still perform at the highest level for several more years despite his age.
The England captain is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in the world and would represent a significant statement signing for United.
Dublin’s comments suggest a January move or a deal next summer could both be realistic windows for United to make their approach for the Bayern star.
Landing Kane would give Carrick a proven, world-class centre-forward capable of delivering the goals United have so clearly been missing this season.
