Liverpool are reportedly planning to reignite their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh when the January transfer window opens.
The Reds failed to land Minteh during the summer after Brighton held firm with a £75 million asking price, significantly above his £38 million Transfermarkt valuation.
Liverpool had submitted a formal offer for the 22-year-old, but ultimately walked away from negotiations before the window closed.
The club instead brought in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain as their primary attacking addition during the summer business.
Minteh originally joined Brighton from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide players.
He contributed 12 goals and assists during his debut season at the Amex Stadium, before recording seven goal contributions across all competitions last season.
Despite that slight dip in output, he remained a consistent attacking threat in Fabian Hurzeler’s system throughout the campaign.
Brighton manager Hurzeler has already hinted that a deal could still be alive for Minteh to move to Merseyside in January, keeping speculation firmly alive.
Football Insider sources also revealed that Liverpool tracked both Minteh and Crystal Palace star Ismaila Sarr as they monitored their options in the wide attacking positions.
Pete O’Rourke offered further insight into Liverpool’s thinking, saying: “Liverpool will be looking at a number of targets in January if they are planning to bring in a new right-sided attacker, somebody to fill the void of Mohamed Salah.”
O’Rourke added: “I’m sure they’ll be keeping tabs on Yankuba Minteh’s situation at Brighton, they made a couple of bids for him that were rejected.”
He continued: “A lot will depend on what Liverpool do between now and January, if Barcola comes in and hits the ground running and maybe they find a solution to that right wing position, whether that’s Cody Gakpo or Victor Munoz, then they might not need to bring in that right-sided attacker.”
Liverpool’s need for wide attacking reinforcements is closely tied to the ongoing search for depth in Andoni Iraola’s squad as the season progresses.
