Manchester United are being linked with a potential summer move for AFC Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.
Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic podcast, outlined why the Frenchman is attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the next transfer window.
Truffert joined Bournemouth from Stade Rennais last summer, arriving as a replacement following Milos Kerkez’s move to Liverpool during the same transfer period.
The 24-year-old made an immediate impression in England, registering six goal contributions and keeping 11 clean sheets across 39 appearances in all competitions during his debut Premier League campaign.
His performances also played a part in Bournemouth finishing sixth in the league, securing Europa League qualification for the south coast club under their previous management setup.
Bournemouth have since appointed Marco Rose as their new manager, and the club are currently reluctant to part with key players during the current window.
However, Ornstein suggests that stance could shift significantly when next summer arrives, with several Bournemouth stars including Eli Junior Kroupi, Alex Scott, Rayan, and Truffert all considered likely to move on.
Ornstein was quoted as saying: “Not many clubs recruited in that left-back position, which means there’s going to be a need on the horizon. Truffert has a really good age profile (he’s 25 in November). He’s the sort of player that you could see moving. Manchester United were one team that we talked about with left-backs over the window, and there will be more.”
Ornstein added: “It is going to be an interesting one. I’m hearing a value of around £60million ($81m) and that there’s potentially a deal to be done next summer. I could see him being capable of playing for one of the biggest clubs.”
Manchester United’s interest in the left-back position stems from the ongoing fitness concerns surrounding Luke Shaw, who has struggled with injuries throughout his time at Old Trafford.
The club moved to address this vulnerability by signing Patrick Dorgu, though manager Michael Carrick has been deploying the Danish player in a more advanced forward role rather than at left-back.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can offer coverage on the left side when required, though both players are naturally more comfortable operating as right-backs.
That positional uncertainty makes Truffert an appealing option for United, should they decide to pursue a dedicated left-back solution in the upcoming summer window.
