Manchester United have initiated contact with River Plate regarding highly rated 21-year-old Argentine goalkeeper Santiago Beltran, according to ESPN Argentina journalist Gustavo Yarroch.
Beltran has emerged as a standout performer for River Plate this year, making 24 league appearances and 23 starts alongside seven outings in the Copa Sudamericana.
United are not alone in their interest, with Italian giants Inter Milan also keen on securing the services of the promising young shot-stopper.
Beltran’s contract at River Plate is due to expire in December next year, though the Argentine club is currently holding talks with the player over a renewal.
River Plate management has reportedly extended Beltran’s contract until December 2027 and set a release clause of 21 million euros, reflecting his growing value.
There is widespread anticipation that Beltran will eventually move into European football, making United’s early enquiry a significant development in the race for his signature.
Beltran earned his first senior Argentina cap in a 2-0 win over Honduras on 6 June 2026, having previously been involved with the national setup purely as a training sparring player.
