Nicolas Raskin’s future at Rangers remains unresolved on deadline day, with the Belgian midfielder having appeared almost certain to depart throughout the summer transfer window.
Raskin has just two years remaining on his current deal at Ibrox, making this a logical moment for both club and player to consider a parting of ways.
His stock has never been higher after a fine World Cup with Belgium’s Red Devils, and that raised profile has only attracted further attention from clubs across Europe.
Hull City registered notable interest in Raskin at one stage during the window, though that deal never advanced to any meaningful stage of completion.
Rangers also rebuffed a loan offer from Besiktas as recently as Wednesday, demonstrating the club’s desire to retain control over their prized midfielder’s situation.
Whatever happens to Raskin today, in January, or next summer, the Gers’ midfield clearly requires further reinforcement to maintain their competitive standards in the Premiership.
On the surface, Rangers appeared to have addressed the midfield department already, with Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, and Vanja Dragojevic all arriving at Ibrox this summer.
January signing Tochi Chukwuani adds a fourth new face to the engine room, giving Derek McInnes a reasonable pool of options regardless of whether Raskin remains or departs.
However, departures have significantly offset those arrivals, with Bailey Rice joining Kilmarnock on loan, Connor Barron signing for Middlesbrough, and Mohamed Diomande heading to Turkey.
Lyall Cameron is also set to leave, further thinning the ranks and strengthening the case for McInnes to add yet another body to his midfield options.
Raskin ended the 2025/26 Premiership campaign with six goals and seven assists across 33 appearances, combining for 13 direct goal contributions in his best return since arriving from Standard Liege in January 2023.
Neither Dan Neil nor Cammy Devlin are considered likely to replicate that level of attacking output from midfield, making a specialist replacement a genuine priority.
Raskin also averaged 1.4 key passes per game, created 12 big chances, and maintained an 86 percent pass accuracy rate, underlining just how difficult he will be to replace.
