Liverpool are pushing hard to complete the signing of Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn this summer, according to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg.

The 16-year-old defensive midfielder is valued at £8-10m and has attracted serious interest from the Merseyside giants following a breakthrough campaign in Germany.

Plettenberg reports that Liverpool initiated concrete talks over a potential deal in recent days, with further discussions having since taken place over a move to Anfield.

Despite not turning 17 until next month, Eichhorn has already accumulated 19 senior appearances for Hertha Berlin, a remarkable achievement for a player so young.

The teenager featured 17 times in Bundesliga 2 during the recently completed season, starting 14 of those matches as Hertha integrated him fully into their senior setup.

He also started both of the club’s DFB-Pokal matches before an ankle injury in January temporarily disrupted his momentum during the second half of the campaign.

As part of the negotiation package, Liverpool have proposed a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen for the defensive midfielder, who is also attracting keen interest from Borussia Dortmund.

Standing at 6ft 1in, Eichhorn combines an expansive passing range with the composure to control a game’s rhythm from deeper midfield positions, suggesting he is well-equipped for Premier League demands.

His rapid development has drawn comparisons to Germany’s great Toni Kroos, and his Hertha captain Fabian Reese described him as an “incredible, exceptional talent.”

Liverpool face competition from Borussia Dortmund for Eichhorn’s signature, making it vital that the club move swiftly to finalise the deal this summer.

Should a move to Liverpool be completed, Eichhorn would join a growing list of exciting prospects to arrive at the club over the last 12 months, including Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and Samuel Martinez.

With Plettenberg confirming Liverpool remain firmly in the driving seat, a deal worth up to £10m could soon be agreed for one of European football’s most promising young midfielders.
