Arsenal have entered negotiations with the representatives of Porto winger William Gomes, according to reports from Brazilian outlet Globo.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/26 season with the Portuguese giants, contributing 13 goals and two assists across all competitions from the right wing.

Arsenal have been monitoring Gomes closely and have now made direct contact with the player’s representatives to gather further information about a potential summer deal.

Porto hold firm on their valuation of the winger, with Gomes carrying a £69 million release clause in his current contract at the Primeira Liga club.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reports that Porto would accept a minimum fee of £52 million for the Brazil youth international, with former club Sao Paulo owed 20% of any future transfer fee.

The winger managed just over 2,000 minutes across all competitions last season, leaving a strong impression with his dribbling ability, pace, and long-range shooting throughout the campaign.

Arsenal’s relationship with Porto is well established, having previously signed Fabio Vieira from the club and most recently loaning Jakub Kiwior to them before the Poland international completed a permanent move.

Despite that strong connection, a deal for Gomes looks unlikely for several reasons, not least the significant fee being asked for a player with only one notable European season to his name.

The quality gap between the Primeira Liga and the Premier League in terms of intensity and physicality also raises questions about whether Gomes is ready for the step up to England’s top flight.

Arsenal’s right wing position also appears well stocked under manager Mikel Arteta, with Bukayo Saka the undisputed starter and Noni Madueke serving as immediate deputy in that role.

Max Dowman demonstrated last season that he can operate effectively from the right wing, while Ethan Nwaneri offers another homegrown option comfortable on that flank, with all four players left-footed.

The Gunners’ primary transfer focus this summer appears to be landing an experienced left winger, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers considered a more realistic and suitable target than the untested Gomes.
