Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened ‘discussions’ with Juventus over a potential deal to sign centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to Italian outlet Tutto Sport.
The Brazilian defender sits ‘at the top’ of Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi’s wishlist as the club looks to strengthen its backline this summer.
De Zerbi knows Bremer well from his time at Sassuolo, where he had the opportunity to observe the defender closely during that period.
Bremer is said to be open to leaving the Allianz Stadium, with the player reportedly intrigued by both the Premier League and the prospect of working under De Zerbi.
The defender holds a £50m release clause in his current Juventus contract, which runs until 2029, meaning Spurs could bypass negotiation entirely by triggering that clause.
Tottenham currently have Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Kevin Danso, and Radu Dragusin as centre-back options, though the futures of several players remain uncertain heading into the summer window.
Romero’s future has been a subject of speculation, and reports indicate Bremer is being targeted specifically as a potential replacement for the Argentine defender.
Van de Ven has also been linked with a move away from the club following Spurs’ below-average performances last season, while Dragusin has struggled to make an impact since joining from Genoa.
Standing at 6ft 2in, Bremer is strong in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and efficient in his defensive contributions across all areas of the pitch.
In 31 appearances across all competitions last season, the Brazilian scored four goals, registered three assists, and helped his side keep 14 clean sheets.
His impressive form has earned him a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil national team squad for this summer’s World Cup, further underlining his quality at the top level.
However, Bremer has experienced fitness problems in recent years, which is a factor Tottenham will need to carefully consider before committing to a deal.
If the North London club do move forward and trigger his release clause, Juventus would have no contractual grounds to prevent him from completing a transfer.
