Pedro Porro has committed his long-term future to Tottenham Hotspur after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2031.

The deal also includes an option for a further 12 months, securing one of Spurs’ most consistent performers for the foreseeable future.

The right-back was set to enter the final two years of his previous deal and attracted significant interest from across Europe before agreeing to stay in north London.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid were among the clubs interested in the 25-year-old, though their interest never progressed to a formal bid.

Romano revealed that Roberto De Zerbi was instrumental in ensuring Porro remained at the club, refusing to entertain any talk of a sale during internal conversations.

De Zerbi reportedly said: “The guy is going nowhere. Let’s give him a new contract, he’s too important for the Tottenham project.”

Romano confirmed the outcome in his own words, stating: “The club agrees, so all together, same direction, Pedro Porro new contract until 2031, done, completed and sealed.”

“So he gets a pay rise and stays at Tottenham as one of the faces of the new project,” Romano added, underlining how unified the club’s hierarchy was on the decision.

De Zerbi spoke warmly about Porro’s qualities, saying: “Pedro is a very important player for us, who has consistently shown his ability to influence matches in both defensive and attacking situations.”

The Spurs manager also praised the full-back’s mentality, stating: “Every day he wants to work, to learn and to improve, and these are the characteristics that help players reach the highest level.”

De Zerbi added: “He understands football in a very intelligent way, and brings energy, intensity and personality to the team.”

Porro, who was signed for 45 million euros from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, has made 47 appearances this past season and impressed during De Zerbi’s seven-game tenure in charge.

The Spain international has contributed 13 goals and 26 assists for Spurs, and marked his 150th appearance in last month’s 1-1 draw with Leeds.

In a video posted on Instagram, Porro told supporters: “Hi Spurs fans. I’m so happy to sign a new contract. Can’t wait to see you next season. Come on you Spurs!”

The contract extension is one of several moves Tottenham have made this summer following their dramatic survival on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign, with free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi also signed.

Romano has also confirmed that Tottenham are in talks over a third bid for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, with Brighton having already rejected two offers from the north London club.

Brighton are reportedly hoping to include Luka Vuskovic as part of any deal, though Spurs are keen to retain the young Croatian in their squad.

Tottenham are additionally looking to strengthen in midfield as De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad ahead of next season.
