Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Como midfielder Martin Baturina following his eye-catching performance at the 2026 World Cup.

The Croatian scored a stunning equaliser against England on Wednesday, briefly levelling the Group L contest at 1-1 in Dallas.

England ultimately ran out 4-2 winners, with captain Harry Kane netting twice in the first half before Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford secured the points in the second half.

Baturina’s impressive display appears to have raised his transfer profile considerably, with multiple Premier League clubs now reportedly tracking the 23-year-old.

According to reports in Italy, via Sport Witness, Manchester United are among the clubs considering a move for the Como attacking midfielder this summer.

Aston Villa are also said to be in the mix, while Leeds United are expected to renew their interest having seen a bid rejected back in January.

Baturina scored six goals and provided three assists in 29 Serie A appearances for Cesc Fabregas’ Como side last season, underlining his consistent quality in the Italian top flight.

Writer and scout Filipe Sousa has described Baturina as “underrated,” and many believe he has a brighter future than highly-rated Como teammate Nico Paz.

The Croatian could potentially serve as a long-term successor to United club captain Bruno Fernandes, who will turn 32 later this year.

United are building their summer recruitment plans with an eye on youthful talent, and Baturina fits the profile of a technically gifted, dynamic midfield operator.

Back on the pitch in Dallas, former England defender Lee Dixon praised Thomas Tuchel’s side on ITV, saying “apart from the moments in the first half when they gave those two goals away, they pretty much controlled the game.”

Dixon added: “They’ve had that forward line, that flair, and the running from midfield to match. They’ve scored four goals. Just stop the two at the other end and it’s been a perfect performance.”

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was impressed by England’s response after half-time, noting that Tuchel “gave them an absolute rocket at half-time because they’ve come out for 20 minutes at the start of the second half and they were breathtaking.”

Fellow United legend Roy Keane added that conceding twice could ultimately benefit England, saying “it’s good they conceded a couple of goals because it keeps them on their toes.”

Baturina’s World Cup showing has only added urgency to a transfer race that promises to heat up considerably over the coming weeks.
