Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya this summer, according to The Athletic.
The 21-year-old came through the academy system at Angers before making 32 appearances for the club’s senior side in France.
His return of seven goal contributions from those Angers appearances was modest, but the attributes he displayed were enough to convince Frankfurt to move for him in January 2024.
Bahoya has continued to develop since relocating to Germany, recording eight goal involvements across all competitions in his most recent campaign.
He also created 32 chances and recorded an impressive 59.4% successful dribble rate, despite not holding down a regular place in the starting line-up.
Those numbers have attracted attention from data-driven clubs across Europe, with teams eager to develop his considerable potential into a more complete all-round forward.
Spurs have moved quickly on the deal, with The Athletic reporting that Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been in contact with Bahoya’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer.
Tottenham’s attacking output last season was underwhelming, with the club managing just 48 goals, a tally that more than half of Premier League sides surpassed during the campaign.
With Richarlison accounting for almost a quarter of those 48 goals on his own, the need for additional firepower in De Zerbi’s squad is clear and pressing.
Manchester City’s Savinho has been Tottenham’s primary attacking target this summer, but Spurs will only move at the right valuation, according to The Athletic.
Bahoya has emerged as a credible alternative to Savinho, with Frankfurt director Markus Krösche previously describing him as “one of the most promising young talents in France.”
The German club are not expected to demand a fee significantly above Bahoya’s £21m Transfermarkt valuation, making him an attainable option for Spurs this window.
Having only just turned 21, the winger has significant room to grow, and an attacking-minded coach like De Zerbi looks well-placed to unlock his full potential.
