Liverpool have reportedly made a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky Van de Ven, according to reputed Dutch journalist Mike Verweij.

Verweij, writing for De Telegraaf, states that Liverpool have been impressed by Van de Ven’s eye-catching performances and have knocked on the door to finalise a potential deal.

The 25-year-old joined Tottenham from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023 and has since established himself as one of the most commanding defenders in the Premier League.

Van de Ven stood 6ft 4in tall and played a key role as Spurs ended their almost two-decade trophy drought by winning the Europa League last year.

Despite Tottenham enduring a disappointing domestic campaign last term, Van de Ven delivered personally, scoring seven goals and contributing one assist in 45 appearances across all competitions.

He also contributed to 12 clean sheets, cementing his reputation as one of the division’s most complete and reliable defenders.

His strong club form has translated well onto the international stage, with Van de Ven playing a key role in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Japan in their opening World Cup fixture.

Contract negotiations between Van de Ven and Tottenham have made no progress, a situation Liverpool are reportedly looking to exploit as they push for a summer signing.

Barcelona have also entered the race, making an approach to bring the Dutchman to Camp Nou during this summer transfer window.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi views Van de Ven as a key cog in his long-term project at the club.

Spurs are therefore not expected to sanction a departure, and Liverpool will likely need to submit an irresistible proposal to force any movement.

Transfermarkt values Van de Ven at around £43 million, and he remains contracted to Tottenham until 2029, giving the north London club significant leverage in any negotiations.

A left-footed centre-back by trade, Van de Ven has also been deployed at left-back for the Netherlands, adding versatility to an already impressive profile.

Whether Liverpool convert their interest into a concrete and formal offer remains to be seen, but the race for the Dutchman’s signature is clearly heating up.
