Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move to sign Manchester City winger Omar Marmoush this summer, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.
Spurs have been the most active Premier League club in the current transfer window, with defensive reinforcement serving as their primary focus heading into the new campaign.
The north London side conceded 57 goals in the Premier League last season, prompting the club to address their backline as a matter of urgency before turning attention elsewhere.
Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have already arrived on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, strengthening the defensive options available to manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Jan-Paul Van Hecke also completed a move from Brighton and Hove Albion to reunite with De Zerbi, who previously worked with the defender on the south coast.
Attention has now shifted to other areas of the squad, with the club reportedly keen on West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali in midfield.
Tottenham’s attacking ambitions are equally clear, with the club having already been linked with Manchester City’s Savinho and Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo ahead of a potential swoop for Marmoush.
Schira reports that De Zerbi is a known admirer of the 27-year-old and that Tottenham are now set to make a formal approach to sign him “in the next days.”
Marmoush could be open to leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer in search of regular playing time, which may work in Tottenham’s favour as they push to secure a deal.
The Egyptian international is valued at around £43 million according to Transfermarkt, a fee that many would consider reasonable given his profile and versatility across the front line.
Capable of playing as a centre-forward, a number 10, or on either wing, Marmoush offers De Zerbi genuine flexibility when constructing his attacking options for the season ahead.
He struggled to cement a regular starting role at Manchester City last season, but many believe a consistent run of games under De Zerbi could help him rediscover the form he displayed so impressively at Frankfurt.
Should the transfer go through, Tottenham would be adding not only a versatile forward but also a proven goalscorer capable of providing a greater attacking threat throughout the squad.
