Manchester United and Chelsea are locked in a transfer battle to sign Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams this summer, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

Adams has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dominant holding midfielders since arriving in England from RB Leipzig.

The American’s technical ability is well documented, highlighted by a spectacular goal scored from the halfway line against Sunderland last November.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola described Adams as ‘magnificent’, and the midfielder has done nothing to contradict that assessment during a standout campaign.

Adams featured in four of USMNT’s five World Cup games, proving to be one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most dependable players before their round of 16 elimination against Belgium.

His 89.4% pass success rate at the tournament ranked among the highest recorded, while his 66.7% dribble success rate underlined his composure when advancing under pressure.

Those performances followed a strong Premier League season in which Adams played a key role in Bournemouth’s record 18-game unbeaten streak, securing their European qualification for the first time in 127 years.

Konur reports that United’s recruitment department views Adams’s Premier League experience, leadership and dynamism as qualities capable of strengthening their midfield considerably.

The Red Devils face competition from Chelsea, however, with the London club also said to have registered serious interest in signing the 27-year-old this summer.

United’s need for midfield reinforcement has intensified following Casemiro’s departure after his contract expired last month, leaving a significant gap in their squad.

Manuel Ugarte’s inconsistent form and a recent injury suffered during Uruguay’s clash against Spain have only added further urgency to United’s search for midfield cover.

United have already reportedly agreed a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, with Adams emerging as another potential addition to bolster the engine room.

While Bournemouth are expected to demand a fee well above his £21m Transfermarkt valuation, Adams could represent a more affordable option compared to targets like Andrey Santos and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Both Santos and Tchouameni are anticipated to command significantly higher transfer fees, making Adams an attractive cut-price alternative for clubs competing at the top level.
