Liverpool are firmly in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, with Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh emerging as a genuine transfer target for the club.

Transfer journalist David Lynch has stated that Liverpool are “definitely” interested in the 21-year-old Gambian winger, who plays predominantly on the right flank.

The pursuit of new wide options follows the departure of Mohamed Salah, which has left a significant void in Liverpool’s attacking setup heading into the new campaign.

Liverpool have already moved to address the frontline by signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but the club recognises the need for further width and creativity out wide.

Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and youngster Rio Ngumoha currently represent the available flank options, though both Gakpo and Chiesa have been linked with moves away from Anfield this summer.

Liverpool had previously explored a move for Yan Diomande, but that trail went cold after the player reportedly expressed a preference for Paris Saint-Germain.

Bradley Barcola also appeared on Liverpool’s radar, though PSG are understood to be determined to hold onto the French forward and have no intention of selling.

Speaking on the Anfield Index YouTube show, Lynch outlined the situation clearly, naming three players Liverpool have concrete interest in pursuing.

Lynch said: “I think of that kind of trio that I definitely know that they’re interested in, in terms of Fernandez-Pardo, El Mala and Minteh. I have to say the one I lean towards, and he probably had the least impressive season of the three, actually, is probably Minteh. Minteh is probably a better profile fit, obviously a left footer on the right-hand side, got Premier League experience.”

Minteh’s profile as a left-footed right-winger mirrors the role Salah made iconic at Anfield, giving Liverpool strong tactical reasons to prioritise his signature.

The 21-year-old managed seven goal contributions across all competitions last season, a modest return that Lynch acknowledged represented the least impressive output among Liverpool’s three identified targets.

Valued at around £38m by Transfermarkt, Minteh is still under contract with Brighton until 2029, giving the south coast club significant leverage in any potential negotiations.

Brighton have a well-established reputation as tough negotiators in the transfer market, and they will not allow a player of Minteh’s potential to leave without receiving strong value in return.

Despite inconsistency at the AMEX Stadium, Minteh is widely regarded as a high-ceiling talent with pace, physicality, and a tireless work rate when his side is out of possession.

His Premier League experience and age profile make him an attractive option for Andoni Iraola’s side, which is still shaping its squad ahead of next season.

Whether Liverpool move beyond interest and into a formal approach for Minteh remains to be seen, with Brighton’s negotiating stance likely to play a decisive role in how the situation develops.
