Manchester United have set their sights on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.
The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most clinical finishers since joining Palace permanently in the summer of 2022.
Mateta originally arrived at Selhurst Park on loan from Mainz 05 before the South London club secured a permanent deal following an impressive initial spell.
His time at Palace has been decorated with silverware, including the FA Cup in the 2024/25 campaign, the FA Community Shield in 2025, and the UEFA Conference League this year.
The French international has also earned seven senior caps for France, three of which have come during the ongoing FIFA World Cup, further raising his profile.
Mateta contributed 17 goals across all competitions in the 2024/25 season, and he backed that up with 16 goals and 3 assists throughout last season.
A proposed move to AC Milan reportedly fell through, but United are now among the clubs circling the imposing 6ft 3in centre-forward ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Galetti reports that Palace are open to selling Mateta and have placed a £25m valuation on the striker, with talks expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
However, United face competition for his signature, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus also credited with interest in the France international, according to Galetti.
The likely departure of Joshua Zirkzee from Old Trafford has created a clear need for a new striker to support Michael Carrick’s squad heading into a busy campaign.
United invested significantly in attacking options last summer, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko all arriving and helping the club secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Sesko netted 11 goals in his debut campaign, but the club will require sufficient depth to compete across domestic and European competitions throughout the season.
At £25m, Mateta would represent strong value for a Premier League-proven striker who has consistently delivered goals at the highest level over recent seasons.
