Liverpool’s search for wide reinforcements has intensified following the departure of Mohamed Salah from Anfield at the end of last season.
The Egypt international’s exit has left manager Andoni Iraola without a reliable, consistent attacking threat in the wide areas heading into the new campaign.
The Reds had been tracking RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande as a potential left-sided addition, but the player opted to pursue a move to Paris Saint-Germain instead.
Liverpool also made contact with Aston Villa earlier this month to enquire about the availability of Morgan Rogers, keeping tabs on the England international’s situation.
Rogers had an impressive 2025/26 Premier League season, scoring ten goals and providing six assists across 37 appearances for Villa in the league.
The 23-year-old also featured at the World Cup with England, starting three matches, providing one assist, and taking the shot that led to Jude Bellingham’s quarter-final winner against Norway.
However, Chelsea have moved decisively to sign Rogers, agreeing a stunning £117m deal with Aston Villa to make him the most expensive English player of all time.
Liverpool and Arsenal were both unwilling to match that figure, allowing Chelsea to win the race for his signature pending a medical and other formalities.
With both Rogers and Diomande now off the table, the pool of elite wide talent available to FSG is shrinking, placing urgency on the club to act quickly in the coming weeks.
Reports from Spain indicate that Liverpool are among several clubs who have been offered the chance to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with a fee of more than £60m required to secure his services.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Barcelona have all reportedly been offered the same opportunity, meaning competition for the Frenchman’s signature will be fierce.
Barcola, valued at around £128m, is described by journalist Robin Bairner as “the next Mbappe,” and offers a similar left-sided profile to the £117m-rated Rogers.
Over the last two Ligue 1 seasons, Barcola scored 25 goals and produced 11 assists in just 63 appearances, outperforming Rogers in goal output across nine fewer games.
The French winger also scored five goals and provided eight assists in the Champions League across those two campaigns, winning the competition both times with PSG.
Barcola’s combined total of 54 goals and big chances created in 63 Ligue 1 games underlines the kind of consistent attacking output Liverpool are desperately seeking to replace Salah’s contribution.
Rogers, by contrast, has yet to test himself at Champions League level, which gives Barcola a significant edge in terms of proven performance in elite European competition.
Liverpool could ultimately land a more impactful signing on the left flank by winning the race for Barcola over their Premier League and European rivals this summer.
