Manchester United are reportedly plotting a move to sign Fulham defender Antonee Robinson, according to The Guardian.
Luke Shaw has been the first-choice left-back at Old Trafford since joining from Southampton back in 2014, winning a Europa League and domestic cup honours.
The 31-year-old has suffered persistent injury problems throughout his time at United and has entered the final 12 months of his current contract.
United signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce as a potential long-term replacement for Shaw, but the Dane has shown greater promise as a forward rather than a fullback.
Harry Amass and Diego Leon are also available options at left-back, though the pair are considered too young and inexperienced for consistent first-team action.
Despite already completing the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, manager Michael Carrick is keen to add a third midfielder to his squad this summer.
The 44-year-old is also targeting a new left-back to provide genuine competition for Shaw, with Robinson emerging as a serious option under consideration.
Robinson is valued at around £19m by Transfermarkt and has entered the final two years of his contract at Craven Cottage, giving Fulham strong negotiating leverage.
The USA international brings pace, aerial ability, quality delivery from wide areas, and reliable defensive contributions, making him a well-rounded Premier League-proven operator.
However, Robinson is set to turn 29 next month, and United ideally prefer a younger profile to build around for the long term.
As a result, the Red Devils have also been keeping a close eye on Newcastle United star Lewis Hall as an alternative option.
Robinson is currently at the prime stage of his career and could represent a shrewd short-to-medium-term acquisition if United decide to firm up their interest.
Whether Carrick and the club ultimately make a concrete approach to sign the Fulham defender before the window closes remains to be seen.
