Manchester United have made formal enquiries over a deal to sign France international midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid this summer.
The news comes from the Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst, who reports that Michael Carrick’s side are accelerating their efforts to land the 26-year-old.
Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco in 2022 and has since become a pivotal figure at the Santiago Bernabeu, amassing 195 appearances for the club.
He has played a key role in Madrid’s success across domestic, European and international competitions over the past four years.
At international level, Tchouameni has established himself as a regular starter for France, helping Les Bleus win the UEFA Nations League under Didier Deschamps.
He also earned a place in Deschamps’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where France reached the semi-finals.
Domestically, Tchouameni was near ever-present for Madrid in the recently concluded La Liga campaign, missing only five of the club’s 38 league fixtures.
Despite reports of a verbal agreement between Tchouameni and Madrid over a contract extension, United remain undeterred and continue to push for the transfer, according to Luckhurst.
A significant factor in United’s favour is Real Madrid’s reported interest in Manchester City midfielder Rodri, which has made the Spanish giants more open to selling Tchouameni despite that pending extension agreement.
Standing at 6ft 2in, Tchouameni brings an imposing physical presence that would suit the demands of Premier League football, offering a more naturally defensive-minded profile than current United midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
His technical quality is equally impressive, with a 91.5% pass completion rate and 25 chances created during the recently concluded season highlighting his all-round contribution in midfield.
With two years remaining on his current contract, Real Madrid are expected to demand a fee exceeding his £59m Transfermarkt valuation, meaning negotiations could prove complex as the summer window progresses.
