Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
The Argentine centre-back has attracted interest from several top European clubs, with Arsenal, Barcelona and Inter Milan all said to be in the running.
Tottenham are prepared to cash-in on Romero for around £43m this summer, with his current contract running until 2029.
The catalyst for his potential departure is the arrival of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion, which has seen Roberto De Zerbi reassess his defensive priorities.
With van Hecke now at the club, De Zerbi no longer views Romero as his first-choice centre-back, opening the door for a summer sale.
Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso is keen to bolster his defensive options, with the club already closing in on a deal to sign Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.

Arsenal’s interest in Romero is driven by their own defensive injury concerns, with William Saliba sidelined and Ben White and Jurrien Timber both having suffered fitness problems in recent times.
That leaves Mikel Arteta’s side somewhat reliant on Cristhian Mosquera, who, at his current stage of development, may not be ready to help Arsenal fulfil their highest ambitions this season.
Despite their clear need for Romero, the north London club may face an obstacle rooted in football rivalry, as Tottenham are considered unlikely to sell the 28-year-old directly to Arsenal.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Romero is complicated by ongoing squad registration issues, which significantly limits their ability to bring in new players this window.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, have reportedly been working hardest among the continental suitors to secure Romero’s services and could prove a serious obstacle for both Premier League clubs.
Romero is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football, making him a high-priority target for any club serious about competing at the top level.
