West Bromwich Albion have just over two weeks remaining before they open their Championship campaign away at Norwich City on the first day of the new season.
Manager James Morrison has already overseen significant squad changes, with Jimmy Jay Morgan, Barney Stewart, and Nolan Galves all arriving to strengthen the first team.
However, outgoings have matched the incomings, with Josh Maja, Daryl Dike, and Karlan Grant all departing The Hawthorns as free agents after their contracts expired earlier this month.
More exits could follow before the summer transfer window closes at the start of September, with the future of experienced central midfielder Alex Mowatt still unclear heading into the final weeks.
Reports earlier this summer indicated there is significant interest from rival Championship clubs in the 31-year-old, though no official offers have yet been made public.
Mowatt has just 12 months remaining on his current contract and will turn 32 before the end of the upcoming campaign, putting the club in a tricky position over his long-term value.
West Brom may see this as their final realistic opportunity to recoup a transfer fee for the midfielder, rather than risk him following Maja, Dike, and Grant out of the door for nothing.
The veteran contributed just five goal involvements across 39 league appearances during the 2025/26 Championship season, starting 32 times while averaging 1.9 tackles and interceptions per game.
West Brom Extra has reported that the Baggies are interested in signing SK Brann central midfielder Felix Horn Myhre and are preparing an official offer for the Norwegian talent.
The 27-year-old is valued at around £2.5m, with Spanish club Elche also credited with interest, meaning West Brom must move quickly to secure his signature.
Myhre has accumulated six goals and four assists across his last 38 league appearances for Brann, demonstrating a consistent attacking threat that Mowatt has struggled to match.
Defensively, Myhre recorded 4.8 duels won per game in 2025 and 4.4 in 2026, compared to Mowatt’s three duels per game during the 2025/26 season, highlighting a notable difference in physicality.
Former Brann player Aune Heggebo, who already has ties to West Brom, could prove useful in helping the club win the race for Myhre’s signature ahead of their rivals.
The Norway international also played alongside ex-Baggies star Torbjorn Heggem at international level, providing the club with further familiar connections to smooth a potential transfer.
Morrison’s side need more creativity and defensive grit in the middle of the park if they are to mount a serious Championship challenge, and Myhre appears to offer both qualities.
