Liverpool have made direct contact with the entourage of Club Tijuana starlet Gilberto Mora, stepping up their pursuit of the highly rated teenager this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, the Merseyside club have opened direct discussions over a potential transfer to Anfield for the 17-year-old attacking midfielder.
Mora has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting teenage prospects in world football since breaking into senior football at Club Tijuana.
He made his senior debut against Santos Laguna on 18 August 2024 at just 15 years, 10 months, and five days old, accumulating 53 first-team appearances since then.
Only 13 days after his debut, Mora scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Club León, becoming the youngest scorer in Mexican top-flight history at 15 years and 320 days old.
His breakthrough extended to the international stage when he debuted for the Mexico senior side in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final against Saudi Arabia, becoming Mexico’s youngest-ever senior international at 16 years and 257 days.
Mora then featured in Mexico’s 2-0 round of 32 World Cup victory over Ecuador, setting yet another record as the youngest player to appear in a World Cup knockout fixture since Pelé in 1958.
Those extraordinary performances have driven his valuation up to £21m, according to TEAMtalk, reflecting the enormous interest surrounding the teenager.
Described as “exceptional” by Tijuana club president Jorge Alberto, Mora is attracting attention from some of the biggest clubs in European football right now.
Arsenal have been closely monitoring the youngster, while Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona have also expressed interest in signing him.
Liverpool, managed by Andoni Iraola, must act quickly to fend off that competition if they are to secure Mora’s signature this summer.
Landing Mora would further reinforce Liverpool’s strategy of targeting elite young talent, having already added Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and Samuel Martinez in recent windows.
