Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Barcelona forward Ferran Torres as they search for attacking reinforcements this summer transfer window.
The North London club had identified AFC Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi as their priority target and were prepared to submit a formal proposal worth more than £80m.
However, those plans were derailed after Kroupi sustained a serious injury that will keep him sidelined for several months, forcing Spurs to reconsider their options.
Tottenham remain keen on Kroupi and could reignite their interest next year once he has recovered, but the club will not pursue a deal in the current window.
With that avenue temporarily closed, the club has begun exploring alternative targets, including Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani and Club Brugge star Nicolo Tresoldi.
Torres has now emerged as another name on Tottenham’s radar, with the club already holding discussions with intermediaries over a potential deal, according to TEAMtalk.
The Spanish forward has entered the final year of his contract at Barcelona, meaning the Catalan club may look to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free next year.
Paris Saint-Germain are also in the race for Torres and are reportedly advancing to finalise an agreement, making this a competitive pursuit for Spurs.
Torres primarily plays as a centre-forward but is comfortable operating on either flank, and he racked up 24 goal contributions across all competitions last season despite being used largely as a rotational option.
He also played a decisive role on the international stage, scoring the winner for Spain against Argentina in the World Cup final, further underlining his quality at the highest level.
Tottenham currently rely on Dominic Solanke and Richarlison as their main striker options, but both players face uncertain futures at the club heading into the new campaign.
Richarlison was Tottenham’s top scorer last season yet is now entering the final year of his contract, leaving his long-term future at the club unresolved.
Solanke, meanwhile, endured a difficult campaign hampered by fitness issues, adding further urgency to the club’s need for a reliable attacking addition before the window closes.
Torres previously played in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City, meaning he would arrive with existing knowledge of English football and its demands.
Should Tottenham complete a deal, the 24-goal-contribution forward would represent a significant upgrade in quality and versatility across Spurs’ attacking options.
