Chelsea are readying an improved £70m offer to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, according to a report from CaughtOffside.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders in this summer’s transfer market following several outstanding Premier League campaigns.
Scott’s rise to prominence began during his time in the Championship with Bristol City, where he made 91 appearances before earning the 2022-23 EFL Championship Young Player of the Season award.
His performances convinced Bournemouth to sign him that same summer, and he has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders.
Scott was described as an “unbelievable player” by Pep Guardiola three years ago, a verdict that has only been reinforced by his consistent displays at the Vitality Stadium.
His former manager Andoni Iraola was equally effusive, hailing Scott as an “amazing” player following a man-of-the-match performance against Arsenal last season.
Scott was ever-present in the Cherries’ midfield, featuring in all but one of their league games, and played an instrumental role in the club’s historic European qualification for the first time in 127 years.
Chelsea have already had an initial £64m formal offer rejected by Bournemouth, who hold a valuation of £80m for the midfielder, leaving a significant gap between the two clubs.
Despite the shortfall, Xabi Alonso’s side remain determined, and the report indicates a fresh £70m proposal is being prepared to try and force a breakthrough in negotiations.
Although several clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal have also registered interest, Chelsea are considered the favourites to secure his signature.
The report also clarifies that Chelsea’s anticipated signing of Jordan Henderson would not impact their pursuit of Scott, suggesting the club view the two transfers as entirely separate operations.
Should Bournemouth accept the improved offer, Scott would provide Alonso with a tactically fitting partner for Moises Caicedo in the Chelsea midfield heading into the new season.
