Manchester United have set their sights on Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, with reports from Calciomercato.it linking the Red Devils to the Dutch international.
Koopmeiners developed through the youth ranks at AZ Alkmaar, progressing through the U17, U19, and U21 sides before breaking into the first team in October 2025.
He went on to make 154 appearances for De Kaasboeren, contributing an impressive 43 goals and 17 assists across all competitions despite not being a natural attacking midfielder.
After three strong seasons in the Eredivisie, Koopmeiners made the move to Atalanta in the summer of 2021, quickly becoming a key figure under coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
His time at Atalanta included a pivotal role in the club’s historic 2024 Europa League triumph, cementing his reputation as one of the more complete midfielders in Serie A.
Italian football expert Willem Haak described Koopmeiners as “world class,” and the midfielder arrived at Juventus in the summer of 2024 carrying considerable expectation.
However, his time in Turin has fallen well short of those lofty hopes, particularly since Luciano Spalletti took charge of the Bianconeri’s midfield operation.
Koopmeiners managed just 18 starts in Serie A last season and failed to register a single goal contribution, a stark return for a player of his supposed calibre.
Spalletti is reported to prefer Douglas Luiz in his midfield setup, pushing Koopmeiners further down the pecking order and making his departure from Juventus increasingly likely.
Juventus CEO Giovanni Carnevali is looking to recoup at least £25m from the sale of the 28-year-old, with the club also open to a loan deal including an obligation-to-buy clause.
Manchester United are among the clubs expressing interest, though Aston Villa are also credited with a keen interest in the Netherlands international this summer.
United have already strengthened their midfield options this window, with both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans joining Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of the new season.
Santos in particular has made an early impression during pre-season, adding further competition to an already crowded engine room at Old Trafford.
Whether Koopmeiners represents genuine value at £25m remains debatable, given that his form over the past year has been well below the standard expected of a player with his pedigree and price tag.
