Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, according to The Independent, as the club continues to strengthen its squad this summer.
The Red Devils have already added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to their midfield ranks this window, yet they remain active in the market for further reinforcements.
United are also exploring the possibility of signing a new left-back to provide support for Luke Shaw, making Lewis-Skelly an attractive option given his versatility.
The 19-year-old can operate comfortably in both midfield and at left-back, a quality that has caught the attention of United’s recruitment team during this transfer window.
The Independent reports that United have held a long-standing interest in Lewis-Skelly and are investigating whether Arsenal would be open to selling the talented youngster.
Arsenal are understood to prefer retaining their academy graduate, though the potential arrival of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes could complicate matters significantly.
Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign for the Arsenal first team in 2024/25, making 42 appearances in all competitions while operating exclusively from the left-back position.
The 2025/26 season proved far more challenging, however, as he found himself largely displaced by Riccardo Calafiori and new signing Piero Hincapie in the left-back role.
He managed to revive his fortunes in early May, stepping into central midfield alongside Declan Rice after Martin Zubimendi experienced a significant dip in form.
The impending arrival of Guimaraes, described as one of the best all-round midfielders in the division, would likely push Lewis-Skelly back towards a substitute role once more.
Lewis-Skelly, described as “fantastic” by Jamie Carragher, remains highly regarded, but Arsenal are considered more likely to offload other fringe players before considering his sale.
Even if Arsenal did sanction a departure, United may struggle to persuade the teenager to leave, given the stiff competition for minutes he would face at Old Trafford.
At left-back he would be behind Luke Shaw, while centrally he would need to compete with Kobbie Mainoo, Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Mason Mount for limited starting spots.
Given those considerable obstacles on both sides of any potential deal, it appears most likely that Lewis-Skelly will remain at Arsenal for at least another season.
