Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Spanish fullback Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, according to reliable transfer journalist Nicolo Schira.
The 28-year-old has already travelled to London to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper, as reported by French journalist Sébastien Vidal.
Chavarria will sign a six-year contract with the Blues after both parties agreed personal terms, with the transfer fee set at £21m plus £4m in add-ons.
The move addresses a pressing need at left-back following the departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Chelsea had been linked with Chavarria since June, with reports via Football Talk identifying him as the club’s chosen replacement for the Spain international.
Manager Xabi Alonso has overseen an ambitious summer recruitment drive, bringing in reinforcements across several key positions throughout the window.
The Blues have already added Italian fullback Marco Palestra and French international Maxence Lacroix to their defensive options this summer.
Danny Welbeck has also been unveiled, while a deal for Jordan Henderson is reportedly nearing completion as Chelsea continue to add experience to a young squad.
Chavarria featured in 33 of Rayo’s 38 LaLiga matches last season as the club secured an eighth-place finish, underlining his importance to the Spanish side.
He also played a significant role in Rayo’s run to the UEFA Conference League final, where they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
As of December 2025, Chavarria had won 189 duels, the third-highest total across Europe’s top five leagues, trailing only Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson on 195 while level with teammate Nico Williams on 189.
Although he scored just once last season, the goal was a spectacular 25-yard strike against Atletico Madrid that demonstrated his quality in attacking areas.
His attacking intent was further evidenced by 18 shots registered throughout the campaign, showing he contributes meaningfully beyond his defensive duties.
