Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their efforts to land Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo this summer, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano reports that Spurs have placed Gakpo on their shortlist of summer targets alongside Manchester City forward Savinho, signalling serious intent from the North London club.
The transfer expert adds that talks over a potential Gakpo deal are set to enter crucial stages as Tottenham look to finalise their attacking reinforcements under Roberto De Zerbi.
Gakpo built his reputation at PSV Eindhoven before moving to Liverpool in January 2023, having lifted an Eredivisie title alongside two Dutch Cups and two Dutch Super Cups in the Netherlands.
His profile rose sharply at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored three goals for the Netherlands and attracted interest from multiple clubs before Liverpool won the race for his signature.
The 6ft 4in forward was a key contributor to Liverpool’s title-winning 2024/25 campaign, producing 18 goals and seven assists across all competitions in an impressive individual season.
Last season proved harder for the Dutch forward, with inconsistent performances and notable misses in front of goal, though he still managed 15 goal contributions across the campaign.
Gakpo demonstrated his quality remains intact at the recently completed FIFA World Cup, recording four goal contributions across four appearances for the Netherlands.
Despite a 47.76% shot accuracy and an 8.04% conversion rate last season, Gakpo led all Liverpool players with 112 shots, and his seven goals from big chances ranked second in the squad behind only Hugo Ekitike.
Romano adds that any deal depends heavily on Liverpool’s own transfer activity, with the Reds not adamant on selling the former PSV man this window.
Liverpool have already signed Victor Munoz and agreed personal terms with Bradley Barcola, moves that have raised questions about where Gakpo fits into the squad heading into the new season.
Should Gakpo seek a move, Tottenham are positioned to offer him a more prominent and consistent role in their frontline under De Zerbi’s system.
Spurs will likely need to meet Gakpo’s £51m Transfermarkt valuation to convince Liverpool to change their stance and sanction a summer sale.
