Tottenham Hotspur have held initial talks with Manchester City over a potential deal to sign Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano made the revelation on Givemesport’s Market Madness podcast, confirming that Spurs have already opened dialogue with the Premier League champions over the 27-year-old attacker.
Marmoush first caught widespread attention with a stunning run of form at Eintracht Frankfurt, registering 23 goal contributions across 39 appearances during the 2023/24 season.
He then took his game to an entirely new level in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing 13 assists in just 26 matches across all competitions.
Those performances convinced Manchester City to sign him in January 2025, but life at the Etihad Stadium has proven far more difficult than expected for the forward.
Marmoush struggled to establish himself under Pep Guardiola last term, starting only 10 games across the Champions League and Premier League combined throughout the season.
Despite his club struggles, Marmoush remains a key player for the Egyptian national team and continues to feature regularly at international level.
Romano has indicated that Tottenham’s primary focus this summer remains strengthening their wide positions first, before potentially pursuing a new striker if funds and the right opportunity allow.
Transfermarkt currently values Marmoush at around £43m, and with his contract running until 2029, Manchester City are under no pressure to sanction a sale this summer.
Romano noted that Enzo Maresca’s side have no desire to let the forward leave the club at this stage, which could complicate any potential deal for Spurs significantly.
Marmoush is a versatile attacking option, capable of playing as an outright striker, a second striker, or providing cover across the flanks given his right-footed profile.
The Egyptian is known for his pace, physical strength, set-piece ability, and willingness to press and work hard without the ball throughout a match.
At 27 years old, Marmoush is considered to be at the prime stage of his career, making him an attractive proposition for Spurs despite his inconsistent Manchester City spell.
Whether Tottenham ultimately make a concrete and formal approach to test City’s resolve remains to be seen as the summer transfer window continues to develop.
