Liverpool are in the market for a major attacking signing this summer following Mohamed Salah’s departure on a free transfer at the end of last season.
Manager Andoni Iraola has been seeking reinforcements out wide, with Liverpool previously targeting RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande as a potential solution.
Liverpool had an offer rejected by Leipzig for the Ivorian forward before he sealed a £120m move to Real Madrid earlier this month.
Diomande had impressed greatly for Leipzig, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists across 36 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season.
However, the 19-year-old has only one full season of regular first-team football to his name and has never played a single minute of European football at any level of the competition.
Liverpool were ultimately right to step away from that deal, having already invested £241m on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak in the previous transfer window.
Now FSG are turning their attention to a player who could serve as Iraola’s own version of Diomande at a fraction of the cost.
Football Insider reports that Liverpool are preparing a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye before the summer transfer window closes.
The 18-year-old Senegal international is reportedly very keen on a switch to Anfield, with the outlet claiming his head has been turned by the prospect of joining Liverpool.
Liverpool are said to be in pole position to sign the teenager ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, driven largely by Mbaye’s own desire to move to Merseyside.
PSG value the winger at £43m, a considerably smaller outlay than the £120m Real Madrid paid to land Diomande from Leipzig.
Mbaye scored three goals and contributed two assists across just ten Ligue 1 starts for PSG last season, ranking highly among right wingers in several per 90 statistical categories.
He also featured four times in the Champions League as PSG lifted the trophy, demonstrating he can contribute on football’s biggest stage even with limited opportunities.
Behind the likes of Desire Doure, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Ousmane Dembele at PSG, Mbaye’s minutes have naturally been restricted, yet he has consistently impressed when given the chance.
Reputable outlet GOAL has previously described Mbaye as “the next Kylian Mbappe” in France, underlining the level of expectation that surrounds the young forward.
He also found the net against France for Senegal at the World Cup this summer, proving he can perform under pressure on the international stage.
Mbaye has recorded four goals across 15 senior international caps for Senegal, adding further credibility to the argument that he is ready for a bigger platform.
Before breaking into PSG’s first team, Mbaye produced a remarkable 15 goals and 19 assists across 37 appearances for the club’s under-19 side, hinting strongly at his creative ceiling.
At £43m, Liverpool have an opportunity to secure a versatile, exciting young attacker who could thrive with regular first-team minutes at Anfield under Iraola.
