Manchester United have submitted a formal enquiry to Galatasaray over the potential signing of striker Victor Osimhen as their hunt for a centre-forward intensifies.
The Red Devils have been searching for a new number nine throughout the summer window, with the deadline edging ever closer and the position still unfilled.
United have cast a wide net in their striker search, identifying targets including Harry Kane, Pio Esposito, Endrick, Nicolo Tresoldi, and Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade.
Osimhen has now entered the frame as a serious option, and crucially, discussions with the player’s camp have revealed he would be open to joining the club.
Former United manager Jose Mourinho once described the Nigerian international as a “world-class striker” during his time at Napoli, and the forward has done nothing to contradict that assessment since.
The 27-year-old has been in extraordinary form since joining Galatasaray, registering 61 goals and 16 assists across 75 matches for the Turkish giants over the past two seasons.
In the 2025-26 Champions League campaign, Osimhen demonstrated his quality against Europe’s elite by scoring seven goals and adding three assists in ten matches.
He also averaged 0.79 goals per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig, underlining his consistency as one of the most productive strikers in European football.
However, securing his signature will not come cheap, with Galatasaray reportedly having already knocked back a £111 million offer from Al-Hilal, meaning United may need to break the bank.
United are also monitoring SC Freiburg’s Igor Matanovic as a more affordable alternative, the 23-year-old having scored 11 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Matanovic’s output represented his most prolific campaign in the top tier of German football, though questions remain over whether his experience level is sufficient for a club with United’s ambitions.
Osimhen, by contrast, has proven himself repeatedly at the highest level in Serie A, European competition, and now the Turkish Super Lig, making him a far more certain proposition for Michael Carrick’s side.
United have already held internal discussions about the Galatasaray forward before progressing to a formal enquiry, signalling genuine intent behind their pursuit of the striker.
The news that Osimhen is personally open to a move to Old Trafford is a significant development, as player willingness is often the critical factor in making complex transfers achievable.
