Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs revealed the news on The United Stand YouTube channel, suggesting United have been presented with a genuine chance to secure the German international this summer.

Raum joined RB Leipzig from TSG Hoffenheim in 2022 and has evolved from a rotational option into one of the club’s most important players over recent seasons.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a productive 2025-26 campaign, scoring three goals and registering nine assists across 34 appearances in all competitions.

Raum also contributed to eight clean sheets for Leipzig last season, underlining his value at both ends of the pitch throughout the campaign.

His performances at club level have earned him a regular place in the Germany national team setup, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s more reliable left-backs.

With his current contract set to expire next summer, speculation about his future has gathered momentum during this transfer window, making now a critical moment for interested clubs.

Valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt, Raum is regarded as a technically gifted left-footed defender who is quick, composed in possession, and capable of delivering quality crosses from the flank.

Manchester United’s interest in the position comes as Luke Shaw enters the final year of his deal and continues to be hampered by persistent fitness problems throughout his time at the club.

Patrick Dorgu was signed as a potential long-term replacement for Shaw, but he has been performing best in a forward role under manager Michael Carrick rather than at left-back.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can both cover the left-back position in emergencies, though neither player is naturally suited to that side of the defence.

United have been linked with several left-back options during this window, with Lewis Hall and Jorge Salinas among the names previously connected with a move to Old Trafford.

Raum represents an experienced and proven option who, at 28, is currently operating at the peak of his career and could immediately strengthen United’s defensive options on the left flank.
