Manchester United are looking to make late additions before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with INEOS still working to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad in key areas.
Two positions remain firmly on the agenda at Old Trafford, with the club seeking a new left-back and an additional forward option before the window closes.
United have already explored left-back targets, most recently making an enquiry over Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen across the weekend, though Villa are reluctant to sell and are preparing to offer the Netherlands international a new contract.
In attack, Carrick currently has Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee as central options, with Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha capable of filling in centrally from wider positions if required.
A new name has now emerged as a potential late addition, with Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth being offered to the Red Devils through intermediaries as a deadline-day opportunity.
According to CaughtOffside, the 30-year-old Norway international could be available for around £30m, though that fee may prove too steep for United at this stage of the window.
One source told CaughtOffside: “Alexander Sorloth has been offered to Manchester United, and, as of yet, they have not ruled out a move. Other clubs could be there too, so United need to decide fast. As things stand, I’m not sure they’d pay the £30m asking price, but they might try to negotiate a loan.”
Sorloth is not believed to be actively pushing for an exit from Atletico Madrid, but would reportedly consider the right opportunity, with Newcastle United and Juventus also linked with the striker.
A loan arrangement could represent an attractive middle ground, allowing United to bolster their attacking depth without committing a significant permanent fee to a second centre-forward this summer.
Sorloth would bring Premier League familiarity to Old Trafford, having previously appeared for Crystal Palace, though his career has progressed enormously since departing Selhurst Park.
The towering 6ft 5 striker has enjoyed highly productive spells in Spain with both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, scoring 44 goals in 107 appearances for the Atletico in all competitions.
His most memorable moment came against Real Sociedad in May 2025, when Sorloth scored four times for Atletico, including a record-breaking hat-trick inside 11 minutes that Opta described as “legendary.”
With 175 career goals across 477 appearances at club level, Sorloth’s experience and goalscoring record would give Carrick a reliable alternative option rather than an automatic starter ahead of Sesko.
United must act quickly with the deadline fast approaching, and whether a loan move for Sorloth materialises remains one of the more compelling storylines of this final transfer window push.
