Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga before the current transfer window closes.
The Red Devils are said to be preparing a £43 million opening offer for the French international as manager Michael Carrick targets elite midfield reinforcements.
Spanish outlet Cadena SER has linked United with the versatile 23-year-old, who has the ability to operate in multiple positions across the pitch.
Camavinga joined Real Madrid from Rennes in the summer of 2021 and remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2029, making any deal complex.
The midfielder’s ability to play as a holding midfielder, in a more advanced role, and even at left back has made him an attractive prospect for United’s recruitment team.
Despite once being considered an important squad member at Madrid, Camavinga has slipped down the pecking order under manager Alvaro Arbeloa this season.
His situation worsened following a costly Champions League outing against Bayern Munich in which he received a red card, contributing to inconsistent form at club level.
Those struggles led Didier Deschamps to leave Camavinga out of the France squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a significant blow to his reputation.
Camavinga made 43 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid last season, registering two goals and one assist, but has managed just 10 minutes off the bench this term.
Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring the situation, meaning United face competition from within the Premier League for the midfielder’s signature.
Reports from Spain suggest United have around £80 million remaining in their transfer budget, which they intend to split between Camavinga and Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.
However, Balde is said to prefer remaining at Barcelona, which would leave United focused on landing Camavinga as the window reaches its conclusion.
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho now leads Real Madrid and had previously indicated their summer business was complete, but an out-of-favor Camavinga could change that stance.
Mourinho is understood to prefer Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and new signing Bernardo Silva in his midfield, leaving little room for Camavinga in the starting eleven.
Madrid’s need to balance their squad numbers means the final days of the transfer window could prove decisive in determining Camavinga’s future at the club.
