Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on loan before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Spurs are ‘closing in’ on the deal, with only the ‘final details’ remaining to be ironed out between the two clubs.
Mudryk has already agreed to the move personally, with Chelsea and Tottenham now in advanced negotiations to finalise the transfer.
The Ukrainian international was cleared to play professionally after serving a 20-month suspension for doping sanctions, but has yet to feature for Chelsea in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea are willing to let Mudryk join on loan as he looks to rebuild his form and rhythm following such a lengthy spell away from competitive football.
Tottenham’s summer spending spree has so far failed to deliver results on the pitch, with the club conceding five goals across their opening two Premier League matches.
Spurs lost 3-0 to Brentford and 2-0 to Newcastle United, leaving manager Roberto De Zerbi frustrated and openly questioning the team’s mentality after the latest defeat.
The board appears determined to back De Zerbi further in the market, with Mudryk identified as a suitable addition to an underperforming attack heading into the final hours of the window.
Mudryk, 25, previously worked with De Zerbi during their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk, which appears to have played a significant role in him choosing Spurs over other interested clubs.
Leeds United and Sunderland were also linked with the winger, but it seems Mudryk has opted to reunite with his former coach in North London instead.
The move does carry an element of risk, given that Mudryk has had limited competitive football recently, though he did show glimpses of quality for Chelsea during pre-season.
Competition for wide positions at Spurs is fierce, with Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Savio, and Mathys Tel all vying for places out wide.
Omar Marmoush, who recently joined the club and can also operate on the wing, adds further competition for Mudryk should the transfer be completed before the 11pm deadline.
