Chelsea are working to identify a midfield replacement for Enzo Fernandez, with the Argentina international closing in on a move to Manchester City.

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White are all under consideration by the Blues.
GIVEMESPORT senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs provided insight into the situation, saying: “They would love Morgan Gibbs-White…it’s not viewed as possible. But there are at least two other names I can tell you. The first name, Martin Zubimendi, the second Lucas Bergvall. Chelsea, as it stands, have not made a bid for these players, but they’re on the list, as they seek a replacement that will unlock Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City.”
Chelsea’s initial pursuit of midfield reinforcements focused on Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma’s Manu Kone, with a £38.5 million bid for Camara already rejected.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has made clear he does not want Kone to leave the club, further complicating Chelsea’s efforts in that direction.
Zubimendi’s availability also appears doubtful, with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggesting the Spaniard is not for sale despite Bruno Guimaraes arriving at the Emirates this summer.
Bergvall had sought to leave Tottenham earlier in the transfer window, but Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi confirmed last week that the Swedish midfielder would be remaining in north London.
Chelsea face a race against Tuesday’s 11pm deadline to secure a midfield addition if Fernandez’s departure to City is confirmed in the coming hours.
