Liverpool and Everton are both reportedly plotting a late move to sign VfB Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling, according to Sky Germany.
The 25-year-old has attracted significant attention from across Europe after a productive campaign that demonstrated his quality at the highest level.
Leweling initially arrived at Stuttgart on loan from FC Union Berlin in 2023 before the deal was made permanent the following year.
He began life at MHP Arena as a rotational option but gradually worked his way into the starting lineup and became a key figure in the side.
Last season he scored 11 goals and registered 12 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, proving himself as one of the Bundesliga’s more dynamic attacking players.
His performances helped Stuttgart finish fourth in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Champions League, underlining the importance of his contribution.
Leweling’s form also earned him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, though he featured for just 30 minutes throughout the tournament.
This season has started on a difficult note, with Stuttgart suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in their opening Bundesliga fixture.
Everton were first to make a concrete move, submitting a formal proposal on Monday evening after reports had already confirmed the Toffees’ desire to secure his signature.
AS Roma had previously tabled an improved bid, with the Italian club’s loan-with-obligation package worth more than 40 million euros having already been rejected by Stuttgart.
Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the winger, making this one of the more competitive transfer battles of the deadline day window.
Liverpool have now entered the race alongside their Merseyside rivals, adding further intrigue to the pursuit of the Germany international.
Sky Germany has not specified the fee or structure of Everton’s concrete proposal, leaving the financial details of the approach unclear.
Leweling currently holds a contract with Stuttgart until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at 40 million euros, giving the German club considerable leverage in negotiations.
