Manchester United are preparing to make a fresh attempt to sign Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall when the transfer window opens in 2027.
Hall was identified as United’s top left-back priority during the most recent summer window, with reports suggesting Newcastle would have accepted £75 million for the player.
United never submitted that offer, leaving Hall to remain at Newcastle, where he continues to operate as both a left-back and a midfielder for the club.
The pursuit of Hall only intensified after Nathaniel Brown emerged as a leading target, only for Bayern Munich to move quickly and take the player off the market entirely.
Once that option disappeared, United recalibrated their approach and Hall emerged as the clear priority for the left-back position going forward.
According to The Sun, United have been laying the groundwork for a potential Hall deal in a similar manner to the way co-owners INEOS previously approached the signing of Carlos Baleba.
United’s reluctance to spend heavily on a left-back this summer was directly linked to their desire not to block the path for Hall’s potential arrival in 2027.
Manchester United have confidence that “even if Hall signs a new deal first, the player has that buy in,” suggesting the club believes personal terms would not be an obstacle.
Newcastle are reportedly aware of United’s intentions and are planning to offer Hall a new contract as a measure to prevent him from making the move to Old Trafford.
United spent £163 million during the summer window, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba, Karl Darlow, and Tynan Thompson to reshape the squad.
Santos, Tielemans, and Baleba are expected to overhaul United’s midfield options, effectively replacing the likes of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte in the squad.
Supporters have been left stunned by the club’s failure to bring in a specialist left-back despite the significant investment made across other areas of the pitch.
United currently have Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, and Noussair Mazraoui as left-back options, meaning the position is not considered a crisis point heading into the new year.
In addition to their pursuit of Hall, United are also reported to be drawing up plans for a further midfielder signing early in 2027 to add depth.
