Arsenal produced a commanding performance to defeat Chelsea 2-1 in a highly anticipated Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates.
The fixture had been billed as the best defence in the league taking on the most menacing attack, and both sides delivered moments of genuine quality across the 90 minutes.
Chelsea drew first blood, with Morgan Rogers firing past David Raya just two minutes into the game to give Xabi Alonso’s side an early foothold in the contest.
However, Arsenal responded with authority, with Kai Havertz levelling the scores before Martin Odegaard sealed the three points with a decisive finish that underlined his growing influence this season.

The Norwegian captain was outstanding across his 77 minutes on the pitch, completing 48 of 54 passes at an accuracy rate of 89 percent while also registering four key passes, the joint-highest of any player on the field.
Odegaard created two big chances, made three progressive carries and won three of his five duels, demonstrating the full range of his ability in a virtuoso all-round display.
Only Declan Rice, who completed 62 passes, bettered Odegaard’s passing volume, and only two players on the pitch had more touches inside the opposition box during the contest.
His goal was perhaps his most devastating contribution of the season so far, ghosting in behind Havertz to collect Tzolis’ pass before thundering the ball past Emi Martinez rather than passing it home.
It was his third goal of the 2026/27 campaign already, a remarkable return for a player who managed just one league goal throughout the entirety of last season due to a succession of ankle injuries.
In 2022/23, Odegaard was the Premier League’s standout midfielder, with no player in his position scoring more than his 15 goals that campaign, and those levels now appear well within reach again.
While Odegaard became the first Arsenal captain in 22 years to lift the title last season, questions had lingered over whether his best days were behind him given his indecisive performances in attacking zones in recent terms.
Sunday put those doubts firmly to rest, with the £30m signing now looking every inch the player who can take Arsenal to another level as they seek to defend their Premier League crown.
